Jose

Last night we decided last minute to bbq. Trey was asleep in the car so Monty went into the store with Tyler and Kory and came out with this, a.k.a JOSE. The boys all had very different reactions to Jose. Makai just looked and looked at him trying to figure out what he was, but after a while he could even say, "Lobster". Kory was very hands on. He took to the Lobster rather well and was excited about the idea of cooking it, but that shouldn't have surprised us because he does want to be a chef.

Kyle had the hardest time with the idea. He wasn't in the store when Monty got Jose and the thought of killing the lobster was too much for him. He had a breakdown. Poor kid--he is our tender hearted animal lover. Monty had to explain to him that it was okay for him to have those feelings and also that it was okay for us to cook the Lobster. After the talk Kyle did a lot better.

Tyler made Jose an origami party hat! So Tyler! Kyle thought this was cruel and said, "Tyler you are like a Nazi. You shouldn't make fun of something you are about to kill."

Monty wanted me to do the honors, so sure Kyle now thinks I'm a murdered. I do feel kind of bad that I only felt a little bad putting that bad boy in the water. What have I become?

I'd had to say Jose looked mighty beautiful when he was cooked. These are a few of the comments said when it was time to eat him.

Monty: "Okay, so how do we eat this guy?"

Trey: "Can I have Cheerios?"

Kory: "Where is the chicken?"

Tyler: "Can I have the claw?"

Kyle: "Tyler stop playing with the claw, that's disrespectful."

For the record: Tyler and KYLE both ate a claw which was a true sacrifice because I wanted a claw!! Monty and I ate the tail, but sorry Jose...we decided crab is better.

It was sure an experience we will never forget. Monty did make chicken and a few pieces of steak that were super good. A night that will go down in history at the Salanoa home. Dad's always full of surprises.

Great story! I love Kyle's feelings and words he used to express them. Proud of his baptism. One by one all of our class is getting dunked. I think Sage will be the last. Go Kyle!

Tell Kyle he's welcome at our animal free dinner table any day! I'm glad he's so sensitive to any kind of killing. What a better world we'd have if we were all more like that. That Tyler is too funny! Making a hat for it -- silly!

I'm sorry... but I could not stop laughing.... Poor Kyle. This reminded me of when Sereisa told Kyle that he was eating Mary's little lamb. I love that he is not ashamed to show his love for animals. They are getting so big and you all look so beautiful. Love and miss you guys tons.
