Reading time...

Our boys love to read.  They each have a light by their beds and they read before going to bed.  Often we have to tell them to STOP reading and go to bed if they are particularly into a book.  To which we'll hear something like, "just 5 more minutes."  or "But I just have 2 chapters left."  Tyler and Kyle enjoy the same books,  and often have to take turns alternating nights if they are reading the same book.  I've decided to start reading their books so I have something to talk to them about.  I started with a book Tyler read called, 'The Mysterious Benedict Society' and he would often check on me to see where I was or tell me, "I can't wait till you get to the end.  The end is so good."  Next I'm going to read, 'The Prisoner of Cell 25' the Kyle just finished.  He was so into it at one point I found him standing on the couch with the book on an end table.  He was so into it he couldn't even sit down.  Kory is lucky in that he is a few years younger so no one is fighting to read his books and he already has a supply.  He usually has about three books under his pillow at a time.  I'm working with Trey on his 'hooked on phonics'.   He's doing really well and I hope to have him through level one by the time he starts Kindergarten next year.  I need to read to him more.  I think some of our stories I am sick of just because I feel like I've read them a billion times, but he just absorbs stories that are read to him.  We got a story call, "Transformers:  Meet the Autobots" at the library.  He asked for me to read it to him several times each day.  Just as I thought I was about to go crazy we sat down and he started reciting the story.  I told him to go until he couldn't do it anymore.  Word for word he recited the book, occasionally exchanging a word like 'huge' with 'big', but for the most part he had the entire book memorized.  I was totally shocked and realized he really IS listening and understanding what is read.  When Monty got home I told him about it and had Trey sit on his lap and show him.  Monty just laughed the whole time and was as shocked as me.
I had to laugh when I found Makai asleep like this during his nap.  He too is like his brothers and loves to fall asleep to a book.  I had to get a picture before I made him more cozy.

I totally understand! Brandon has been checking out the books on CD for the books that the girls are reading so he can listen to them on his drive to work and then discuss the book with them. That's been so good for them!

I am a reader too. My mom and I used to read the same book at the same time. Now Brandon and I do the same thing. That's a good idea to read the books my kids are reading. I have done that a few times...but not regualrly because I usually have a book I am into! BUT...I could do it on a monthly basis or something.

That picture is a classic. There is symbolism in it. It's going to be my new wallpaper. You should be so proud of what they are doing.
