He can sleep anywhere!!

Makai is our deepest sleeper.  It is so hard to wake him up and he hates to be woken up.  He may not be in the same spot when he wakes up as he went to sleep.  This morning I woke up and found him sound asleep like this.  I am not sure how he can handle a blanket over his head, but it didn't seem to bother him at all.  Kinda funny to me that he has his two turtles with him.  Not sure how he ended up here.  Love him!!  Always good for a laugh.

Trey's Admirer and Birthday

A couple weeks ago Trey got this note from the neighbor girl. He was not flattered.  He wrote a note back that said, "I am only 9 and the only girl I love right now is my mom."  Hopefully now that his is 10 he still feels the same way!
Trey is offically 10!  And loves anything basketball!  He loves to play basketball, watch basketball, play basketball video games and look over his hundreds of basketball cards.
Trey asked for a Klondike bar for his birthday instead of cake.  He usually chooses Ice cream over cake.

Mammy and Grandpop sent him a basketball for his birthday!!  He loves it.

He loves his new Steph Curry basketball shoes.
He also got some football cards from the 90's and is enjoying learning about the old school football legends.  Monty knows them and they have spent some time going through them.  Thanks Dash for remembering Trey on his special day.

Living Legends

Living Legends came to Omaha.  Monty had never seen the performance and neither had the boys so we decided to take them out of school a little early and take them to the show.  It did not disappoint.   We brought our across the street neighbors who enjoy Native American Dance.  Samoa was a crowd favorite.  We all enjoyed the performance and left feeling as though we had be culturally fed.

Year One D-O-N-E!!!

The first YEAR of medical school is officially done!!  Monty did a great job and so we went out to celebrate!!  What better way to celebrate than with food!!  Sushi and spring rolls hit the spot.  Great job honey!

First day of pediatric academy started about one day after school got out.  Monty enjoyed this rotation and even came home thinking he could be a NICU doctor. It's only a 8 yr residency!  HAHA!!  Only time will tell....

Track and Field

Tyler and Kyle really love Football, but Monty convinced them that they should try another sport.  So, they both went out for track this Spring and really enjoyed it.

Tyler enjoyed throwing shot and discus.  He improved throughout the season with a final throwing distance of 31.8 feet for shot and a discus throw of 89 feet.
Kyle enjoyed it as well.  He admitted to enjoying it more when he won.

Although he didn't have the best throw of the meet, on his final throw of the final meet he broke the school record and had his best throw ever by about 20 feet.

Now Kory wants to beat Kyle's record.  (They ran out of 2s and had to do a paper 2.)  He beat the old record by about 8 feet.
We were glad they tried something new and enjoyed it.

Mother's Day

Mother's Day is a pretty special day.  I am lucky to have wonderful boys that call me mom.  My boys have soft hearts.  I felt very loved on Mother's Day.
My parents sent me See's Truffles!  So delicious!!

Kyle made me a bracelet.

Makai made made me a cute plate at his friends house which read, "I like your teeth."  When I asked him about it he just said, "Because they are like shinny Mom."  I am very self conscience about my teeth because they are not straight anymore.  His plate made me feel like I shouldn't worry so much.

The classic Hand print from Makai.  Love it.

And Kory drew me a picture with a note.  Kory loves to draw and his note was sweet.

and Kinda funny.
Monty also gave me a gift.  A gift I was not expecting, but he had been talking to an orthodontist in our ward and scheduled for me to have my teeth fixed.  I cried at the sweet gift because I really wanted it.  It also counts for my birthday and Christmas for the next several years!;)  Thanks honey!!

Father and Son's Outing

This year the Father and Son's outing fell on a horrible day for our family.  It was the weekend before Monty's last final and the weekend the Kory had a merit badge clinic and Kyle had a band performance and of course Tyler had a date.  So, we did the next best thing.  The boys set up a tent in the back yard.  It proved it be pretty fun.
Dad cooked dinner

While the boys set up the tent

team work

Kory is always one to try and look fly!

And dad still had time to study

While Makai enjoyed nature.

While playing Kory said he saw a rat!!  We tried to find it to insure him it was not a rat.

But what was it?  We were not sure.

A bunny.

About 8 bunnies!
Makai ran inside and got them a bowl of milk.  But upon learning they were too small to drink it, he did.

We all enjoyed the bunnies for a time as we tried to figure out what to do with 8 bunnies.

One of the bunnies had died and the other 7 were huddled waiting for their mom for return.  The only problem is that bunnies are cute when they are little, but as they grow are very destructive.  We had a problem with bunnies when we lived in Colorado.  They bit a whole in our water fountain  cord outside and dug a hole which caused our front step to drop by about a foot.  We didn't want bunnies at this house.  So, I told Monty to take care of it.  He threw the bunnies away in the trash.  Somehow Makai heard what happened and screamed, "You threw them in the trash?!"  I will never forget that.  Then I admit I lied to my son and told him no, we gave them to the neighbor who is a firefighter and will take them to work with him and put them in a field.

Do I feel bad for throwing them away, Yes.  Am I sad I don't have 8 bunnies living in my back yard...NO!

The boys slept in the tent that night and had a great time.  Monty slept in our room.  He said this may be the new way they do father and sons.

Kyle is getting pretty resourceful

One thing I love about Kyle is he is willing to try anything.  Recently he has been learning new skills and enjoys completing things on his own.  These will be wonderful lifelong skills buddy.

He fixed his own backpack
He has learned how to bead and made a few bracelets

And he cut Makai's hair.  Makai said he would let him do it as long as he could cut his afterward.  Of course, by the time Kyle was done Makai had forgotten and just ran off to shower and play.
